October is cyber security month and a great reminder to review your cyber security.  We thought we would highlight some of our top tips to keep your digital data safe:

1) Passwords – it may seem obvious but you need to make sure you have a hard to guess password and don’t use the same password for all your online log ins.  There are lot’s of secure passwords management apps that provide you with a secure password (ensure it is 8 + charachters and ideally a random mixture of numbers, letters and symbols to make it as secure and hard to guess as possible)!

2) Spam emails – if you are unsure if an email is spam or not – always air on the side of caution. You are best to phone the company that the email is from e.g. if it is from your bank with important information, then phone them and ask if the email is legit.  This way you will know if it is safe to click on any links and follow instructions given in the email. NEVER click on a link if you are not sure!

3) Securely destroy your data – we can’t talk about digital data and not mention shredding!  There is so much of your personal data stored on laptop and computer hard drives and memory sticks, this is why it is so important to ensure you securely destroy your laptop and computer hard drives. The most secure way is to shred them which we can do for you. More information is on our hard drive shredding page, click here to find out more.  You don’t want to just chuck these in the bin as if it falls into the wrong hands, they would have a lot of your data.

4) Updates – ensure that your software is up to date as this will ensure that you have the best protection against cyber threats.

Hopefully this has been a good reminder to check your cyber security and see if there are any area’s you need to improve on to keep your personal data safe. There are lot’s of great resources online to help and if we can be of any help with securely destroying your computer and laptop hard drives and memory sticks – just contact our helpful team!
